Twin Breaker studio Lillymo Games had to abandon plans to release a project for PlayStation Vita following Sony’s confirmation to shut down the handheld’s online store on August 27.

The game is still at least six months after release – so it just won’t have time to launch until Sony closes the Vita store in August, following similar closures of the PS3 and PSP stores on July 2. .

Lillymo Games posted on Twitter to discover the news at the same time as it was publicly revealed:

In a report released today by The Gamer, Spooky Squid Games – the developer of Russian Subway Dogs’ upcoming Vita port – said they are now rushing to get the project completed on time. A European launch has also been questioned due to the additional complications of submitting the project to the PEGI rating committee for what will be a limited-time release.

“Basically it’s a whole new puzzle on top of the already complex process of getting out to consoles as a small developer,” said Miguel Sternberg of Spooky Squid Games. “Babywearing was really a labor of love. We’re way past the point where it’s very profitable to release on Vita, but it’s one of my all-time favorite consoles and I wanted to release a game on it first. everything stopped. Most of the “price” of the decision to port Vita has already been paid. This is my first time going through this console coding process – my game development experience is art, not code – so there is no guarantee I will meet the deadline. It’s a lot of stress. “

Perhaps surprisingly, the games are still releasing on Vita – someone probably should have let Sony know too! – and with the terminal store due to the shutdown, it will mean the end of platform income.

Thomas Altenburger, developer of ScourgeBringer, posted on Twitter to say that his game’s next Vita port would be available next month as scheduled – but of course would now be a “limited version” until the store closes.

Vita owners will still be able to download and re-play previously purchased games, video content and PlayStation Plus titles once PSP, Vita and PS3 stores close. But no new purchases will be possible, which means many digital-only games will be lost forever. Yesterday Martin and Chris Donlan put together a list of PlayStation PS3, PSP, and Vita classics that will become inaccessible when Sony’s shutdown occurs.
