Pokemon Shiny Diamond and Shiny Pearl are coming to Nintendo Switch next month, and it looks like the remake will bring a big change from the original DS: HMs have been taken out of the game! The official Pokemon Twitter account has revealed that hidden moves like Cut and Rock Climb will now be used by Wild Pokemon summoned via the Poketch. This means players won’t have to teach their Pokémon HM, wasting space that could be used for a more powerful attack. It’s a small improvement in the quality of life, but one that will be well received by most fans!
“You can also use your Pokétch to summon wild Pokémon to help you get to places you could never reach on your own! They will use hidden moves like Chop to chop down trees blocking your path. or Climbing to climb steep cliffs, ” the Tweet reads.
HMs were introduced in the first generation of Pokemon games, allowing players to teach Pokemon to use moves that opened up areas of the map. While HMs like Surf could also come in handy in combat, moves like Cut and Flash took up valuable movement space. Each Pokémon can only know four moves, and HMs (initially) could not be removed and replaced. Over the past few generations, Game Freak has mostly done away with HMs, replacing them with options that don’t take up travel space. previous Pokemon remakes like Pokémon: let’s go the HMs have been similarly dumped, so fans should be happy to see that will be the case for Shiny diamond and shiny pearl.
While Pokemon Shiny Diamond and Shiny Pearl will have a lot in common with its predecessor, it is becoming increasingly evident that there will also be quite a few changes.
