Have Cyndaquil complete the Fifth Anniversary Collection in Pokemon GO for a medal and rewards, before the challenge ends.
Pokémon GO is currently celebrating its fifth anniversary and until July 15, Coaches have the chance to earn an Elite Collector’s Medal and other awards for completing the Fifth Anniversary Collection. This challenge can be completed by catching 19 different Starter Pokémon, which include the Second Generation Fire Type, Cyndaquil.
To aid Trainers in their quest to catch them all for the Fifth Anniversary Collection, Niantic has increased the spawn rate of all 19 Pokémon. There are also other ways to increase the occurrence rate and find Cyndaquil, so that trainers can have more time to catch the other 18 Pokémon.

How to get Cyndaquil
Pokémon GO coaches can find Cyndaquil:
- In residential areas / towns, or on beaches
- In hot / sunny weather
- Using lure modules at Pokestops
- Obtained the field research task “Power up Pokemon 5 times”
- Obtained “Use 5 Berries to Help Catch Pokemon Field Research Task”
As a Fire-type Pokémon, Trainers can increase the chances of getting Cyndaquil if they live in hot climates, are close to a beach, or live in a city / large residential area. Whether or not players have access to these areas, anyone can increase their chances of getting Cyndaquil by using a lure module in a Pokestop. Until July 15, the Lure mods have been extended to last an hour, and the Pokemon starter will appear more often. Lure Mods can be purchased in the Shop for 100 PokeCoins or 680 Pokecoins for a set of 8.
Other ways to find Cyndaquil
Another way to getting Cyndaquil is by completing research tasks. The two July Field Research tasks “Use 5 Berries to Help Catch Pokémon” and “Power Up Pokémon 5 Times” will reward one of Johto’s three starting Pokémon: Chikorita, Totodile, or Cyndaquil. These Research Tasks can be obtained by spinning Pokestops, and Trainers can stack the tasks to save themselves from berries and stardust.
However, these tasks cannot be exploited to find Cyndaquil, as once the search is complete it cannot be obtained by spinning the same Pokestop again. Trainers will have to find the tasks by spinning other Pokestops if they haven’t found Cyndaquil, Johto’s beloved starter. To pick up new research tasks, a free space is required. If instructors don’t have a free slot, they can delete another task by tapping the trash can icon in the upper right corner of the search they want to delete.
The Fifth Anniversary Collection must be completed by 8 p.m. local time on July 15 if coaches wish to receive the Elite Collectors Medal. 80 PokeBalls, 3 rare candies and a guaranteed encounter with a flying Pikachu balloon are also rewarded.
Pokémon GO is now available on Android and iOS devices.
