2020 has been an unprecedented year, to say the least. We’ve all had to adapt to new circumstances and situations together while embracing a new social distancing protocol.
As a company, we have developed new found skills and talents through the free time that has been given to us. Some may say it was a blessing in disguise while others faced tremendous hardship.
Pokémon GO 2020 recap
Niantic has significantly changed Pokémon GO to stay abreast of current global situations and 2020 was a prime example of this change. Pokémon GO has gone from being a purely outdoor experience to what is now a hybrid mobile game that takes into account the original outer mechanics and also with the introduction of inner abilities. The release of Ranged Raids, GO Battle League, Global Friendship Interactions, and other tweaks have altered this change.
As a global community, we have found ways to maintain normalcy in uncertain times. Pokémon GO has been a big part of many people’s lives this year and when people work together to introduce new standards for each other, it brings out the beauty of destruction that 2020 has presented.
At Pokémon GO Hub, we want to remind everyone to stay safe. Yes, we know you’ve heard that a million times this year, but we really mean it. Pokémon GO was originally intended to be an outdoor game and continues to follow its original idea to this day. As mentioned earlier, Pokémon GO can be played indoors, but venturing outside obviously has its advantages.
With the holiday season coming to an end, we still don’t know how 2021 will play out, whether in Pokémon GO or the real world. How about none of us saying 2021 will be our year and let’s take it slow and steady. Let’s see how things go together since there are still restrictions in place around the world in order to stay safe.
Take this article as a reminder for everyone including your trainer to prioritize your safety and well-being over everything. Do not violate any rules or restrictions regarding Pokémon GO. The best part of the game is that there are always more chances. What is that? is there a Charizard that spawned right across the street? if you are locked out, do NOT risk getting caught and putting yourself and others in danger for a virtual monster. Play it safe.
Be serious
Unfortunately, we have lost a lot of good people this year. I’m sure you’ve now heard the headlines regarding the rise in depression and anxiety due to the stress of managing loss and / or other uncertainties that 2020 has presented to us. There have also been stories on social media about the Pokémon GO trainers we have lost this year due to COVID-19 or other circumstances.
Remember you are not alone. Grieving is something that many of us will have to face at some point in our lives. It is a natural process and something that should not be ignored, it helps us learn to face and come out of disaster in life. If you know someone is having difficulty, get in touch, talk to yourself and ask someone how they are coping and if there is anything you can do to help them.
Love ends in loss for those who remain and grief is a natural response to the loss of what we hold dear..
If it is you who are grieving, don’t be afraid to ask for help. It will be the attraction you need to escape a dark place and to understand and appreciate the beauty of life again. Staying distracted is also a great way to deal with anxiety and the pressure of everyday life.
John hanke (CEO of Niantic), recently posted a tweet on his personal account here which encourages the use of Pokémon GO to help fight mental health issues. Some key points mentioned in this article are that it highlights the benefits of playing Pokémon GO, including encouraging being outdoors, exercising light, building social bonds, but new scientific research shows that it can also improve mood and cognitive abilities.

A recent study indicated that those who had a negative mood before playing Pokémon GO felt much better after the game. From experience I can see that the majority of the Pokémon GO community is watching each other, which is an incredible thing. I have heard countless stories of trainers helping others, and what better way to brighten up someone’s day than to show you care and are ready to help.
From all of us at Pokémon GO Hub, remember we always think of YOU, yes of you, reader. No matter what you’ve been through this year or in your life as a whole, you are a fighter, you have had your worst days and managed to keep your head above water. Whatever your mental state, just know that there is help, there is always someone ready to stop and listen, whether it is a friend, family member or advise. We will go through things together as a society.
Separation words
Positivity is something we need on this earth, in times of hardship, positivity and having the right mindset is an extremely strong trait that can push any kind of boundary in one’s life no matter what. happened.
If there’s one thing we should take away from 2020, it’s that we have hope. We’ve learned more about what it takes as a society to counter something that affects us all and the steps needed to eliminate threats such as COVID-19. We also have some exciting new aspects of Pokémon GO to look forward to in 2021, things are slowly improving and we’ll be back to normal soon enough.
This article is in memory of a close friend. Jimi Rattenbury was taken from this world on December 13, 2020 due to a tragic traffic accident. As hard as it is to write those words, he would be proud. At only 31, he was taken too early. Jimi will always be remembered as a brother, a son and an incredible Pokémon GO player. Until we met again, man. <3
