Pokemon Go: Should you start or evolve first?

Even three years after the release of Pokemon Go, many coaches still do not know whether to activate or upgrade your Pokemon first.

Most trainers are familiar with the power of your Pokémon and, of course, anyone who has heard so much about Pokémon knows the concept of evolution.

What is the power?

First, before answering the question of whether or not you should start the system, it is important to understand what it is doing.

Turning on your Pokemon essentially brings it closer to its maximum potential. There are 40 levels in Pokemon Go (for both the coach and the Pokémon themselves) and turning it on brings you closer to this maximum level.

When powering on, you should also consider the diminishing returns of using precious star dust to increase the power of your Pokémon. As the level goes up, more star dust costs to increase with less reward.

It should be noted that there is a big difference between CP and IV, since CP is an aggregated statistic that combines the level of a Pokémon with its IV.

Evolve first?

So now that we know exactly what the power is doing, we can discuss what to do first. Before the introduction of TM, the Pokemon movement game was more important. This meant that it was best to start by changing Pokémon to find out if he had the desired movement.

That said, there is no reason to waste MTs as they are not a common resource. Therefore, the argument can be advanced that it is wiser to evolve first to see if you get the move you want for free.

In addition to this, an evolved Pokémon will have higher basic stats and will therefore be better at fighting.

This is a question that is continually asked in the Pokemon Go community, but as the mechanics of the game hold, as discussed, there is little difference.

As with any other game, this could change however, so it would be wise to stay abreast of any changes made.
