Pokémon Snap new release date announced for Nintendo Switch

Finally, some good news: New Pokemon Break will be released for Nintendo Switch on April 30, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced Thursday. The sequel to the original Pokémon Snap, released in 1999 for Nintendo 64, will send players to the Lental region, where they’ll take pictures of Pokémon in the wild.

Players will work with Professor Mirror and his assistant Rita “on an ecological survey to photograph Slow Pokémon thriving in the wild,” according to a press release. Players will tour the Lental Islands in a rail vehicle known as the Neo-One through various paths. Slow Pokémon will be attracted to “Fluffruit,” an edible object that will definitely make it easier to photograph wild creatures.

As with the original Pokémon Snap, players’ Pokémon photos will be judged based on their pose, the size of the creatures appearing in the photos, their position in front of the camera lens, and their position in the frame. Pokémon behavior that changes over time in New Pokémon Snap, and players “can see Pokémon behaving in whole new ways.” A press release also teases a new phenomenon native to the Lental region: Illumina, a mysterious glow emitted by certain Pokémon.
