It’s officially been a year since Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield released for the first time on Nintendo Switch! The latest and greatest mainstream Pokemon video games marked a drastic change from previous models, and not just because they were the first to come out for something that wasn’t. only a portable console. From Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon to the very first DLC expansions, it’s been a year to remember for the franchise, and Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield art director James Turner took the opportunity to celebrate with a new piece of art.

The best part about Turner’s new art isn’t just the fact that he’s celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Pokemon titles, but managed to include nods in last year’s trip. While that of course includes the new starters – Sobble, Grookey, and Scorbunny – there’s also an appearance of Kubfu and Calyrex, the Legendary Pokémon from the DLC expansions. You can check out Turner’s cute new birthday art below:

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are both currently available for the Nintendo Switch. The latest piece of downloadable content, Crown tundra, recently published. It’s unclear if popular video games will receive further DLC at this time. You can check out all of our previous coverage of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield here.
