Pokemon Sword and Shield: Gigantamax Vs. Dynamax Details Explained

[ad_1]

The newest Pokemon sword

and the Pokemon Shield trailer revealed another unexpected gameplay mechanism: Gigantamaxing, not to be confused with Dynamaxing or Mega Evolution from previous generations. Here is what is Gigantamaxing and the differences between the three we know so far. But first, take a look at the new trailer below to see a Gigantamax Pokémon in all its splendor.

What is Gigantamaxing?

Gigantamaxing a Pokemon changes both in size and appearance. For example, a Gigantamax Alcremie grows a huge multi-tiered cake, and a Gigantamax Corviknight grows, climbs into the air and wins "independently flying blade birds". Yes.

Gygantamaxing a Pokémon improves its stats like Dynamax Pokemon (but we assume even more), and Gygantamaxed Pokemon will also have access to a special G-Max move.

Gigantamax Pokemon in the sword and shield

The Drednaw Gigantamax Water-type moves will be replaced by G-Max Stonesurge, who not only inflicts Water-type damage, but leaves sharp rocks around the battlefield – like Stealth Rock. Each movement of G-Max is specific to a specific species of Pokemon. These will be extremely important when choosing a Pokémon Gigantamax to add to your team.

Gigantamax can only be used by certain individuals of certain Pokemon species. So while all Corviknight can Dynamax, only some special individuals can use Gigantamax – and this replaces the Pokemon Dynamax feature.

How to get Gigantamax Pokemon

As mentioned, only the "special members" of certain Pokemon species will be able to Gigantamax. So far, we know only one way to get them, it is by participating in Max Raid Battles. The official Gigantamax page also states that these people are "… very rare – finding them will not be easy!"

Do not worry, Max Raid battles can be done without going online – your teammates will simply be NPCs instead of real players.

Although nothing is confirmed, we also assume that special Pokémon Gigantamax will be available as a Pokemon event, as in the case of some special Mega Evolution Pokémon distributed by special means – like Ash Greninja in Pokemon Sun Moon.

Dynamax vs Gigantamax vs Mega Evolution

At a glance, here are the differences between these three mechanisms, keeping in mind that Mega Evolution will not be in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

  • All Pokémon can Dynamax.

  • Some species of Pokemon can Mega Evolve.

  • Gigantamax can only be used by certain individuals of certain species.

  • Dynamax Pokemon is enlarging.

  • Mega Evolved Pokemon change appearance.

  • Gigantamax Pokemon is expanding and changing appearance.

  • A Pokémon must hold a Mega Stone to be able to Mega Evolve.

  • Pokemon does not need to hold an item for Dynamax or Gigantamax.

  • The key elements reserved by the trainer are necessary for the three mechanics.

  • Dynamax and Gigantamax can only be used in certain areas of the Galar region.

  • Mega Evolution is historically licensed everywhere, anywhere.

  • Mega Evolution stays for the whole battle.

  • Dynamax and * Gigantamax only last three turns (* not confirmed).

  • Pokemon Mega Evolved do not win special moves.

  • Dynamax Pokemon wins the Max Moves, which are more powerful versions of classic moves they already know.

  • Pokemon Gigantamax gets ultra-powerful G-Max moves, unique to the species of this Pokémon, and replaces a certain type of movement for each species.

  • The three mechanisms improve the stats of a Pokémon, but it is unclear to what extent and how Dynamax and Gigantamax are doing.

Why Gigantamax?

I can see that Gigantamax Pokemon is incredibly popular because of the limited information we know. Dynamax just seemed to combine the statistical improvements of Mega Evolution with the power-up of Z-Moves in a rather brilliant way. Pokemon's Gigantamax includes new ultra-powerful G-Max moves that can completely change the course of a battle – much more than a Pokémon or a Z-Move Mega Evolved can not do on its own.

Drednaw's G-Max movement deals damage and installs Stealth Rock; Corviknight deals damage and defuses; and Alcremie's inflicts damage and heals your camp. It also seems that these special moves can be used every three rounds. Unbelievable.

I can see Gigantamax Pokemon being incredibly sought after.

"

This is speculation, but after Corviknight, Drednaw, and Alcremie winning Gigantamax forms, it seems like Pokemon without any evolution will get it. However, a previous Pokemon leak that has proven to be mostly true contradicts this assumption – it indicated that Pikachu and Meowth were also gaining Gigantamax forms, so that Gigantamax could well be a free game to the extent that Pokemon species will be able. of that.

Yeah, the name is silly, and the number of slightly different mechanisms in different games gets slightly out of control, but I'm all for Gigantamaxed Pokémon and the increased challenge to get them. What am I do not We can not wait to find a Gigantamax Pokémon with the right kind and capabilities – it's like a complete nightmare.
