As promised, the latest presentation of Pokemon Direct has brought a ton of new details on the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield games for Nintendo Switch. In addition to confirming the date of their release, the show introduced us for the first time to some of the new characters that players will meet during their journey through the Galar region, as well as a handful of new Pokémon Gen 8 who populate it.

The first is the grass type Gossifleur, whose pollen has healing properties. Gossifleur is able to evolve towards Eldegoss, the Pokemon Cotton Bloom. We also had a look at Wooloo, an adorable Pokemon of sheep covered with soft wool, as well as the vicious turtle Drednaw. Finally, the Pokemon company revealed Corviknight, the Raven Pokémon. It is interesting to note that Corviknight will be able to return players by taxi to any city they have ever been to, much like the former Fly HM.

These are not the only new Pokemon we have examined. Pokemon also unveiled the legendary Pokemon of Sword and Shield, Zamazenta and Zacian. Few details about the fabled ones have been revealed, but the first is covered with armor that looks like a shield, while the second brandishes a sword in its mouth. In their trailer, we can briefly see the legendary fighting before a sound holds their attention.

This is certainly not all we learned about Pokemon Sword and Shield during Pokemon Direct. As expected, the games introduce a new combat mechanism called Dynamaxing. Like Mega Evolution and Z-Moves before it, Dynamax is triggered via its own button and can only be used once per battle. This gives your Pokémon a massive size, giving it a boost of power and turning its attacks into Max Moves. However, Dynamax Pokemon will only stay in this state for three turns.

Players will also be able to team up with other players and battle wild Pokemon Dynamics during Pokemon Go raids while exploring the Wild Area, an open world-like environment between Galar towns. The launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield for Nintendo Switch on November 15th. To learn more, check out our Pokemon Sword and Shield pre-order guide.
