Two American cyclists were killed and three others injured in Danghara district, Tajikistan, on Sunday, when a car hit them before fleeing the scene, US authorities said

. "Three foreigners were killed at the scene and another died at the hospital," said the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan at the news agency

. A 21-year-old man was arrested as part of the incident, reported Radio Free Europe / Liberty Radio

In a statement, the US Embassy in Dushanbe confirmed that two of the victims were Americans. citizens.

"Due to confidentiality issues, we are not able to share more details: Our condolences go to the families of the victims, and we will continue to work with the Tajik authorities in the ongoing investigation", the statement said.
