The bout for the stage victory was settled on the last few kilometers, when three cyclists broke away from the peloton: Greg Van Avermaet, Yves Lampaert and John Degenkolb. After the deadly arrival, the last of them was triumphant

The scene was dominated by a large number of falls. Among them were Christopher Froome (Sky), Mikel Landa or the winner of the previous stage Dylan Groenewegen of LottoNL-Jumbo.

Sky Team Poland's Michał Kwiatkowski also scored a crash in a bend, which cost her time. The fall of Rafał Majka (Bora Hansgrohe) seemed much more serious: two riders – Janse van Rensburg and Damien Gaudin – remained in the lead for a while. At the 19th kilometer, the peloton caught up with them

the three of them changed from where the name of the winner was chosen. Rafał Majka arrived at the finish line in the top 10 and was promoted to sixth overall. The peloton was overtaken by Michał Kwiatkowski. Despite rumors, Tomasz Marczyński did not withdraw from the scene. Belgium's Greg van Avermaet (BMC) has retained the Belgian yellow jersey.
