The bishop of Kielce forbids Cohen, the Beatles and Morricone at weddings and funerals

Metal weddings are rather rare, but some church representatives are not satisfied when the entertainment repertoire rings at mass. During the wedding ceremony, young couples often choose songs that have little in common with the church, but are particularly important for future spouses. Also during the funeral ceremony, the family often chooses songs that relate to the life of the deceased.

Everyone does not like that – the reps diocese of Tarnów they decided to prepare a list of prohibited works, which should not appear during the wedding, and they took on the role of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", particularly popular at weddings. The artist also fell to the hands of representatives the diocese of Kielce.

The bishop of Kielce forbids the Beatles and Leonard Cohen in the liturgy

On the site of the diocese of Kielce appeared Instruction on music and liturgical song for the diocese of Kielce, signed by Mgr Jan Piotrowski and the chairman of the committee of music and organists of p. Michał Olejarczyk.

The instructions explained that music was always associated with Christian rites:

"

Music in the liturgy is not his "setting", but is associated with the celebration of sacred ordinances. It can be a special way of participating in the sacred rites, the mystery of faith. The purpose of liturgical music is the glory of God and the sanctification of the faithful and the building of a community of believers.
"

The Bishop points out that there is no room for liturgy entertainment or movie music:

"

It is forbidden to perform lay works in the liturgy (especially when it comes to Mass with the celebration of the sacrament
weddings and during the funeral liturgy). Film and entertainment music, songs often devoid of appropriate content and form, can find no place during the Eucharist.
"

It was also decided to give examples of songs that should not be heard at all in the church:

"

Here are some examples of works banned at Mass during the liturgy: Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, The Winner Wins All by ABBA, The Seasons of A. Vivaldi, The Dream of R. Schumann, Music of the Movie Mission, E Morriconego, compositions of the group "The Beatles", etc.
"

In addition, the bishop recommends to priests and organists of the parish awareness of the faithful, to separate the celebration of the liturgy from everyday life:

"

Religious songs and sacred songs can be used at other prayer services or meetings. However, they can not be performed during the liturgy of the sacraments given without Holy Mass and the rites of Christian funerals.
"

Electric guitars and percussion banned in Polish churches

At the end of 2017, at the 377th plenary meeting of the Polish Bishops' Conference in Lublin, the Polish bishops made a decision concerning the rules of liturgical music in the Catholic churches of Poland.

The dignitaries passed, among others the prohibition of religious songs of too secular character during the masses. During services, there is no room for instruments associated with entertainment music, such as electric guitar and drums.
