Today 29 November (8:20 pm)
The painting "M 39" by Wojciech Fangor was auctioned at Desa Unicum in Warsaw for PLN 4,720,000! This is a new record in the Polish art market.
The previous record belonged to the painting of Stanisław Wyspiański "Macierzyństwo" sold for 4 366 000 zlotys last December.
"M 39" by Wojciech Fangor has an amazing story – with 33 other paintings, the painting was created especially for the solo exhibition of the artist at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Like previous works, the artist continues her concept of illusory positive space, which extends between the canvas and the viewer and is based on the natural functions of the optical camera. These images are not limited by frames, they are open compositions that pulsate with movement and color. The works of Wojciech Fangor were first shown to the New York public at the exhibition "15 Polish Painters" in 1961. Four years later, he was invited to participate in another important exhibition, which influenced the art of the 1960s. Speech by "The Responsive Eye", exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
