Prices for food, alcohol, tobacco and non-alcoholic drinks, among others, are higher than expected. In January, consumer inflation stood at 0.9%. – these latest data were published by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
Previous expert forecasts of the National Bank of Poland have talked about accelerating the price rise. By 2019, average inflation was to reach 3.2%, the highest level of the indicator for nearly 7 years. In light of the latest CSO report, these estimates were far too pessimistic.
Compared with the previous month, prices for consumer goods and services rose only 0.1%. And already in December, when Polish holiday shops have gained momentum, inflation has remained at a relatively low level of 1.1%, a record since the end of 2016.
As reported by the Central Office of Statistics (GUS), housing prices in January 2019 have risen at a rapid pace. They increased by 0.6%. compared to the previous year. A higher price increase is visible in the case of transport. Here, the indicator was at 2.6%. on an annual basis.
