Police arrested a man suspected of driving a car that killed a 61-year-old woman in the morning. The driver escaped from the scene of the accident. The police thanked the residents of the city for the help that helped them find the car and the suspect. He was drunk.
According to the police, the alleged motorist would be 26 years old. During his detention, he had 1.9% alcohol in the body. The police reported that the man had been the subject of numerous tests for alcohol. Thanks to this, experts will know more easily if he drank before or after the accident.
The 26-year-old is currently in detention. He will be questioned when he is sober. If it is confirmed that the fatal accident has pushed him to drink, he faces 12 years in prison.
Off the tracks
The tragedy occurred Monday around 6 o'clock. All indications are that the woman crossed the pedestrian crossing through al. Rydza Śmigły at ul. Tymienieckiego, who was ruled out due to renovation.
– It was after six in the morning, when a dark car speeding too fast and heading towards the center hit the pedestrian. The impact resistance was very high. As a result of the accident, it was rejected for several tens of meters. The author left the scene of the accident without giving any help. The woman died on the spot – said Marzanna Boratyńska of the Lodz police asking for help to stop the driver.
One of the witnesses to the tragedy attempted to resuscitate the 61-year-old boy who had been touched.
– Unfortunately, the ambulance that went to the place announced the death – informs the policewoman.
