A fire at a tire yard in Żory (ivląskie Voivodship) took place Tuesday night Wednesday. The fire covers about 10,000 square meters. There are more than 20 firefighters on the site.
The fire at a recycling company's tire depot broke out around 1:30 am Tuesday to Wednesday. After four in the morning, the situation was still uncontrolled and the fire – whose area had initially been estimated at about one thousand square meters – has spread to a much larger area.
Warehouses and neighboring production buildings and the remaining part of the depot are under threat – informs the spokesperson of Silesian firefighters, Brig. Aneta Gołębiowska.
There are no wounded. There are no residential buildings in the immediate vicinity of the fire, so it was not necessary to evacuate the residents. The action of firefighters is hindered by high temperatures and strong smoke. Clouds of dense black smoke can be seen on fire tires. Firefighters work in respirators.
After four in the morning, more than 20 firefighters worked on the site, including Żory, Rybnik and Pszczyna. Soon they will have to join them with other firefighting units.
A company in which there is a dump at ul. Kleszczowska specializes in the recycling of used tires and other rubber products. The tires are stored in chimneys 5 to 6 meters high.
