Before the fifth round, only three teams had counted in the fight to leave Group E of the Champions League. It was Bayern Munich, Benfica Lisbon and Ajax Amsterdam. The Dutch were in the best position to face the weakest side of AEK Athens. The Greeks in this edition have not scored a single point.
Unexpectedly, the Athenians caused huge problems in Ajax, which was not in its best form Tuesday. In the first half, he gave only two precise shots. In general, it was like a medicine, AEK only hit once.
After the break, Marko Livaja reached the crowd in Amsterdam. First, he received a yellow card for cutting off his rival and fifteen minutes later he played his hand in the penalty box without thinking. Not only did he receive a second yellow and, therefore, a red card weakening his team, Dušan Tadić took advantage of the eleven. 18 minutes before the end of the match, Ajax raised the score, again thanks to the Serbian striker. AEK's defense has completely collapsed. David Neres and then Klaas-Jan Huntelaar were not allowed in the penalty area. With this win, Ajax is sure to leave Group E of the Champions League before the end. AEK remains one of two teams, apart from Lokomotiv Moscow, which did not score points in the competition.
