Andrzej Duda submits a request for a referendum on the constitution

[ad_1]

– A little over a year ago, I said we should start a discussion on a new constitution in Poland. Poles are an absolutely mature society. Everyone in Poland has their own opinions on the most important political issues. It is therefore impossible to make a decision about them without asking the opinion of the Poles –

"I want to interest the Poles in democracy"

– This year marks a symbolic moment, the 100th anniversary of the reclaiming independence. The current constitution has been in effect for 20 years. I think it's time to do a deeper reflection on this. People should say something about it. The form of such a statement, in addition to elections, is a referendum. Hence our initiative to conduct a consultative referendum – said Andrzej Duda.

– Someone may say that the turnout is low in Poland. I regret that the interest in democracy in our country is so low. I believe, however, that we can stimulate them, including by holding a referendum – says Duda.

Referendum on Independence Day

– I would like the referendum to be held on November 10 and 11, in connection with Independence Day – says President

– I want to submit a referendum project to the Senate as soon as possible to give the National Electoral Commission as much time as possible to prepare a referendum. That is why I will present a proposal to the Senate today – Andrzej Duda announced.

A List of 10 Questions

The Speaker then presented a list of 10 questions for the referendum. The fundamental question is whether the Poles want to change the constitution at all.
