Chiyo Miyako passed away on Sunday. His death was confirmed Friday by Kanagawa Prefecture, his home state south of Tokyo.

Miyako, born May 2, 1901, became the world's oldest in April after the death of Nabi Tajima of Kikai Island in Japan.

Miyako's family called her "the goddess" and remembered her as a talkative person who was patient and kind to others, according to Guinness World Records, who had certified her title. Miyako loved calligraphy, which she practiced until recently, and ate sushi and eels, according to Guinness.
