The term "climate neutrality" has been transformed in many ways by Miguel Arias Canete, European Commissioner for Climate Action, who announced a tighter implementation of the Paris Agreement. Neutrality must be achieved, among other things, at the expense of coal.
The European Union is supposed to be neutral vis-à-vis greenhouse gases in 2050. By this year, as the European Commission assumes, 80%. Electricity will come from renewable sources.
With new targets for 2030 on renewable energy and energy efficiency by 2030, we should cut emissions by 45%. – said the European commissioner for action for climate and energy, Miguel Arias Canete.
Paris Agreement with a vengeance.
The announcement of the European Commission is nothing more than the confirmation of the Paris agreement of 2015, with a slight progress.
In Paris, 195 countries (in 2017, Donald Trump has withdrawn from the climate system) have defined a global plan of action that should be an effective remedy against global warming. This, according to scientists, is already within our reach. The effects of increased passivity on climate change will be catastrophic. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the European Union (IPCC) warned that with an increase in the planet's temperature of 1.5 degrees in the seas, the number of fish would be reduced by 1.5 million tonnes per year. At 2 degrees, it's already 3 million tons. And this is just one example of the effects of global warming.
In the announced strategy, the European Commission really wants to implement the Paris Agreement. With very precise deadlines. Establishing achievement in 30 years with a slight increase in climate neutrality is a decisive step in the prevention of dangerous climate change.
Climate neutrality at the expense of coal and gas imports.
We can maximize the share of renewable energy sources – this will be the basis of our energy system. More than 80% of the electricity will come from renewable sources by 2050. – announces the Vice President of the European Commission for the Energy Union, Marosz Szefczovicz.
Climate neutrality must be achieved, inter alia, through increased energy efficiency in the industry or the electrification of transport.
Miguel Arias Canete makes it clear: the European energy system must come odwęglić. A significant reduction in gas imports will also help. Falling 70 percent is giving 2050 a saving of 3 trillion euros.
The Polish economy is facing a daunting challenge.
The announcement of the European Commission announces important changes in countries where the economy is mainly based on coal. And yet, Poland depends on "black gold" at around 80%.
In order to reach the CO2 reduction targets, we must at some point achieve a balance between CO2 emissions and absorption, so that the carbon dioxide atmosphere no longer increases. – The Minister of the Environment, Henryk Kowalczyk, does not hide.
For the moment, we are at a crossroads.
A horse with a row of people who can accurately describe the Polish climate strategy today. Of course, our country has signed the Paris Agreement. But apart from the documents, the acts count. These, in turn, do not give an unambiguous answer in the direction we are going.
On one side, we are opening a new 1,000 MW block at the Ostrołęka power station, which means we are still focusing on coal. At the same time, the Minister of Energy, Krzysztof Tchórzewski, makes more and more statements about the Polish nuclear power plant. And to this end, we add to the removal of wind turbines operating on Earth. Quo vadis Polsko?
