Reminder: the city hall of the capital decided Tuesday a contest for the so-called Central Square – a fragment of Plac Defilad, which must remain undeveloped. This is the end of the arduous procedure, preceded by social consultations of unprecedented scale in Warsaw. The group A-A Collective Swiss-Polish was invited to design the final version of the square. His project assumes that the layout of the streets, apartment buildings and pre-war courts will be reproduced on the surface of the square (the outline of one of them will determine for example, the shape of the fountain provided).
Politicized pig
The emotions, however, warmed up the failure of the project implementation and the surprising elements of one of the visualizations. One can see, among others, an airship flying over the city and a hovering pig. And it is this pet that caused an avalanche of comments.
Even the future president of Warsaw was active on Twitter, which summed up in the spirit known for his election campaign: "This is a new project of President Trzaskowski's Defilad, which means a lawn and a flying pig. the European capital. "

However, he forgot that the project was created before the swearing in of the president and that the decision of the competition court would have no influence anyway.
But then, what is the pig? The first trophies appeared immediately after the first surprise, in the comments and answers. Their authors suggested that the pig and the airship combine … music. One of the members of the band Pink Floyd – a pink pig was on the cover of one of their albums, and a balloon in this form was promoted several years ago by an exhibition dedicated to the London Victoria Museum team. The airship is in turn a reference to Led Zeppelin's team.
But why did they put them in visualization? Probably for a joke. Blinking for an insightful audience is a common practice among architects. A visit to the studio's website can also lead to such a conclusion. Even the section "who are we" where, instead of traditional architectural photos, you can see old portraits with black-veiled eyes.
Vice-President Michał Olszewski and the Head of Architecture Office Marlena Happach also commented on the confusion:

The controversy surrounding architectural visualizations does not only concern the specificity of Warsaw. They are often accused of "selling" a certain vision of a city where there is no room for, for example, elderly people or people who are discriminated against. This is the case, for example, when architects use forms sets provided by software producers to create visualizations.
