– The independence of Ukraine, the security of Poland and the entire region depend largely on the relationship between Kiev and Warsaw. Recent tensions show that not everyone has done their homework. Only full solidarity between Ukraine and Poland can save us in the future from a repetition of tragic history – said Tusk at the end of the EU-Ukraine summit in Brussels.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also attended the meeting.
Tusk appealed to the authorities of both countries "for a new approach to our relations and our positive thinking". – Only our enemies or political fools depend on the conflict between us – he added.
Anniversary of the Volyn Massacre Separately
In recent days, the dissonance over the historical events between Poland and Ukraine has been highlighted once again when both parties have organized two separate celebrations commemorating the massacre from Volyn.
The Ukrainian side held Friday ceremonies on the 75th anniversary of the Ukrainian-Polish conflict in Volyn, just before the 75th anniversary of Volyn's crime. The Polish party planned them in this region on Saturday and Sunday 7 and 8 July. The heads of the states of Poland and Ukraine did not meet.
President Andrzej Duda, Sunday at Olyyka Cemetery in Volyn, called on the Ukrainian authorities to restore the possibility of exhumation of the victims of the Volyn massacre.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian President participated in the commemorative ceremony of several hundred Ukrainians murdered during the action conducted in 1944 by the Polish armed forces. He said that Kyiv relied in part on the amendments to the law on the IPN, concerns Ukrainians.
At the NATO summit in Brussels on Wednesday, Duda will talk with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko. The meeting will be held at the initiative of the Ukrainian side.
