On Sunday, July 8th, there was probably no bigger concert on our globe. Or rather for sure. How could this be if The Rolling Stones is the largest group in the world existing to date? Not just because he has released 30 studio CDs sold for hundreds of millions of copies. The group has gathered several generations of fans, becoming a musical point of reference for them. And in Warsaw, at the National PGE, she decides to finish her European tour as part of the tour "No Filter Tour"
The concerts of the Polish Stones are always accompanied by a large amount of emotions resulting because the group does not play them often. in 1967, and then in 1998 and 2007. No wonder the tickets literally sold on the chest. From the morning in Warsaw, it was possible to feel the joyful atmosphere of waiting for the most important concert of the year, probably for many decades.
The Stones left the scene at 20:50 and stayed there until 22:58. Not bad for the musicians, the youngest, the guitarist Ron Wood, is 71 years old and the oldest, the drummer Charlie Watts, 77 years old. Only these years were absolutely impossible to hear, or at least they did not constitute any musical limitation. The riffs and solos of Wood and Keith Richards seemed as cool as we could ever dream of, and Watts did not stop for the moment with Watts remembered as "Beggars Banquet" and "Sticky Fingers"
. Bassist Darryl Jones, singer Sasha Allen and saxophonist Karl Denson presented the energy that two young bands could envy him. He played with a great class, not limited to the reproduction of studio versions of songs. Many of them, especially in the second part, have very extensive arrangements. Such as the funky "Miss You" who rocked and "danced" the entire stadium, on the occasion of the enchantment of the impressive vocal-vocal duet between Jagger and Jones. Or an animated piece of "Midnight Rambler" that has turned into a racial jam blues session. But of course, the most popular songs were accepted – Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" cover, "Paint It Black", during which the whole stadium beat "Sympathy for the Devil" or firecrackers like "Start Me" Up, "" Jumpin's "Flash Jack" and "Brown Sugar." Or played as the first reminder of "Gimme Shelter", Jagger's vocal dance duo with the incredible Sasha Allen. It is unfortunate that there was no iconic and very popular "Angie" in Poland, but the role of the evening ballad actually took over "You can not always get what you
The main "quarterback" was Jagger for more than a few seconds, he walked all the time, he ran like crazy, he danced, he shook his hips, he applauded and of course he sang without a noticeable breathlessness.The space was not missed, thanks to the gigantic stage from which emerged the 50 meter long platform. The building itself could have been associated with a modern railway station, and it was dominated by four massive screens that made it possible to see what was happening on the stage from almost every part of the stadium. Each presented a different approach, and sometimes a visualization or film related to the songs. The sound, as on the National, was not perfect, although the closer to the scene, the better the acoustic impression. On the other hand, Stones do not look and listen only;
– This is our fifth concert in Poland, it's fantastic to be here with you – he confessed the fifth piece "Bitch" Jagger, using a very impeccable Polish language. Not the first and not the last time. While already at the two previous group tours in our country, Mick was very eager to use our language, this time he did it a little more efficiently, although we know that this was to recall certain phrases. But it was nice to listen when he said "What a beautiful night!" and he assured "You are the best", he asked "How is Warsaw?", "Is it ok?" "Is Krakow here?", "Is Poznań here?" and "Is Gdańsk here?" At the band's presentation, he called guitarist Ron Wood the "king of dumplings."
An open question was whether Jagger would refer to the letter to the letter that the former Polish president Lech Wałęsa wrote to the Rolling Stones, who drew attention to that "the current regime wants to destroy the independence of the courts in our country". "They took control of the Constitutional Court last year, and now they are dispensing Supreme Court judges from the constitution." Contrary to the smile and doubt of critics of the Polish Nobel Prize and the legend of Solidarity, Jagger did not leave this call without comment
– Poland, what a beautiful country … I am too old to be judge. But I'm young enough to sing – he said in Polish, receiving a huge applause. Then he developed the idea in English, although in a very diplomatic way. – We were here in 1967. Think of everything you've done since. May God be with you.
The concert is over, and how, extended to almost 10 minutes, the version of "I can not get no" Satisfaction, which was crowned by a short but powerful fireworks fire . In the concert itself, however, there was nothing artificial, but it was full of great rock and roll emotions. It was finally The Rolling Stones. Let's enjoy our grandchildren for decades and they will not believe us anyway.
