"Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Wednesday discussed with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, the definition of EU positions in the framework of the European Council that will start Thursday," said the spokesman of the government, Piotr Müller.

"During the conversation, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to select candidates who will focus on program issues concerning Poland," said the government spokesman.

"He mentioned, among other things, the rules of fair competition on the European market – including in the area of ​​Polish transport, the extension of subsidies to farmers, energy security issues, migration policy, the issues EU budget – including the Cohesion Fund, "Müller said.

A government spokesman said the conversation had focused on the procedure for the election of the president of the European Council under the so-called "Spitzenkandidat" formulas (formulas of the main applicant). "The Prime Minister also stressed the need to maintain a fair geographical balance in the distribution of posts to the EU," added the spokesman.

Thursday, a two-day European summit will be held in Brussels and will be devoted to for the highest position in the EU institutions and the strategic program of the Union for 2019-2024.

At the two previous summits, the President of the European Council holds discussions with all EU leaders on the topic of staffing EU posts. This topic will be discussed at the summit on Thursday night. On the eve of the summit, Tusk, in a letter to EU leaders, assured that despite the various interests within the EU, there was a political will to fill the most important posts before the end of June.

The discussion on the composition of the most important positions within the EU institutions was officially launched at the summit held at the end of May. Up to now, however, there has been no consensus on the issue of personal data in the Member States.
