The Ikea network resigned from the construction of a second store in Silesia. With the shopping and entertainment center that accompanied him, he had to settle in Zabrze. The company explains with its decision the changes in the global market and the situation in the construction sector.

Silesion.pl provided information on the cessation of investments, citing the letter sent by Ikea to the tenants of the future shopping center. These reports were confirmed by the spokesperson of Ikea Polska, Krzysztof Janiak, who told Business Insider Polska that the reason for the decision of the company is a world market situation in mutation . Ikea analyzes the impact of e-commerce, namely sales on the Internet and is considering new business formats.

The second reason for the abandonment of investment in Silesia, already related to the Polish market, is increase in construction costs . The entire building industry is grappling with the problem of rising costs of building materials.

– It is also necessary to re-examine the investment and adapt the project to changing market conditions – says Janiak. At the same time, he assures that the company's decision is not related to the law restricting trade on Sunday – all Ikea stores must be closed on Sundays.

A shopping center with the Ikea store in Zabrze was to be built on a parcel of land. 87 thousand sqm, located right next to Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa. He was to have a total of over 130 commercial and service premises . In addition to the shops, restaurants and a cinema were planned. The plot was to be an area of entertainment and education.

Ikea currently owns a shop in Silesia – in Katowice. In addition, the Swedish chain currently has 9 stores in major Polish cities.

Instead of the standard store, a smaller Ikea store will be built in the capital

Add that Ikea has previously suspended the store in the Wola district in Warsaw. The reason is administrative difficulties that an investor has encountered. He had to rebuild the old Fort Wola CH and turn it into a modern facility with an Ikea store.

The Swedish chain does not resign from the opening stores in Poland, but in a different format. In Warsaw, CH Blue City is to be built this year Ikea store with a smaller area than previously built. For the moment, the company does not plan to open similar facilities in other parts of Poland
