Specustawa concerning Westerplatte

On Friday, Seym accepted 13 Senate amendments to the special law on the construction of the Westerplatte Museum.

The Law on Investments in the Construction of the Westerplatte Museum and the War of 1939 – Department of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk – according to its authors, the PiS deputies – aims to improve the construction of the Westerplatte open-air museum and the War of 1939. PiS deputies want, among other things, that Westerplatte – better than before, the heroism of the Polish soldiers who, in 1939, resisted in this place after the aggression of the Third German Reich against the Poland. In their opinion, this area is not properly used for Polish memory.

Specustawa supports the construction of a museum in Westerplatte, which will be part of the museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk. The facility would operate in areas that are currently in the hands of, among others the army and border guards, but also those belonging to the city of Gdansk. Among these are, among others, parcels containing Wartownia No. 1, relics of defense buildings that were once part of a military depot, and a hill with the Coast Guard monument.

Terms and conditions

Specustawa specifies the investments in the construction of a museum, including construction work, supplies or related services, as well as its establishment in the area located on the peninsula Westerplatte in Gdańsk.
