Borisovas started working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs … of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. Until 1991, Lithuania was not an independent state, but one of the Soviet republics. The local Ministry of Foreign Affairs was then an umbrella of the KGB in Lithuania and was directly subordinate to Moscow. Even the local communist party had nothing to say there. And Borisovas was the first secretary of the press service.
Only this part of his biography did not appear in the official communiqué. We can only learn from him that the ambassador worked at the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry after the proclamation of independence, then he made a career in the world of diplomacy. He was representative in Poland in the 1990s, consul general in St. Petersburg and ambassador to the UN. His candidacy sparked discussions within the Lithuanian Seym. MPs warned the government against a diplomatic scandal, but to no avail.
Lithuania has long struggled against lack of lustration. The archives contain a list of KGB secret collaborators. All those who admitted to cooperating came to see her and in exchange, the census was to remain secret for 75 years. All this so that those who work there can quietly perform public tasks.
Only that the list fled unexpectedly! And then it turned out that there were names on it … the most important people in the country, including President Grybauskaite, the Lithuanian prime minister and the ministers! The scandal has managed to stifle, the authorities have been silent and Lithuanians have been discussing this list for several months. Borisovas is to take over the Warsaw branch on 4 December. As we have decided, lively discussions with the representatives of the Polish and Lithuanian governments are still taking place.
