By the end of the year, maintenance conditions for MPK Łódź low floor cars should be significantly improved. A special hall with 10 stands for the use of the most modern trams will be opened. Some equipment solutions will be used for the first time in Łódź
According to MPK, the construction of an object intended for the inspection and repair of low-floor trams is proceeding as planned. Since the beginning of construction in April, foundations have been built, a steel structure and a sheet metal roof were installed, and walls with a ceiling were built in the social part. The construction of survey channels is also ready. The facade of the hall is under construction. The degree of completion of MPK is defined as 40%
In a hall with usable area of about 3,960 square meters, five lanes equipped with 10 stations for inspection and repair will be built. At the highest point, the building will be about 9 m high. This is important because between lanes 3 and 4 (for daily service) there will be a movable bridge, raised to the roof height of the vehicle. Such a platform will work up to 20 people. The current halls do not have such platforms, which complicates the work on low floor cars in which much of the equipment is on the roof
Another innovative solution, used this time on the track no. 1, will be the traction network. This will allow the work of 12 mobile wireless column lifts that will lift the vehicle during chassis component repairs. The object must be "tailor-made", adapted to the length and height of different types of rolling stock MPK.
The new hall is built by P.P.U.B. Inkomet Jan Skubisz. The cost of investment is about 11 million zlotys. 74% of this amount will come from co-financing of the Regional Operational Program. In early 2018 and 2019, the contractor must obtain a permit to use the facility
The percentage of low-floor trams – new and used – in the carrier's fleet is increasing. The company, 74% co-financed with European funds, is part of the contract to supply 12 new Pesa Swing wagons. – In the low season, low-floor trams can be used in better conditions than before, and their inspections and repairs will be faster and more efficient – MPK Chairman Zbigniew Papierski said in April. Reducing service time is important because low-floor cars usually travel around the city for most of the day. As a result, there is little time left for their daily maintenance – from 23 to 4 o'clock in the morning. If necessary, however, older and raised-floor cars may also use the new facility.
