NASA shared a landscape view of a surface on the planet Mars that features what looks like creepy spiders.

The image shows a cap of carbon that enveloped the area during the winter as the sun returns in the spring. It shows what looks like silhouettes of spiders emerging from the surface of Mars.
Araneiform Field
These arachnid features, however, are not true spiders. These features are what scientists call "areaniform terrain". Mounds form when the carbon dioxide ice below the surface warms up and is released.
NASA says that the active seasonal process does not happen on Earth, but because the ice is dry on our planet, the dry ice on Mars is sublimated. warms up from solid to gas and gets trapped under the surface.

The trapped carbon dioxide gas eventually accumulates under pressure and eventually becomes sufficiently resistant to pierce the ice like a jet that spews out dust.
