The mystery surrounding the fate of Amelia Earhart has become almost as legendary as the amazing career of the skilled airman
Earhart was born on July 24, 1897. She disappeared when she disappeared on the Central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island in 1937. She attempted to become the first woman to circumnavigate the world.
"Please, know that I am aware of the risks," wrote Earhart to her husband, George Putnam.
Earhart moved to California and headed for Florida, flying over Puerto Rico, Central America, Senegal, India, and Thailand before stopping in Australia.

The hope was renewed when, in 2017, a photograph appeared showing a woman who looked like Earhart on a pier after apparently being taken prisoner by the Japanese.

The vehicle, along with other artifacts formerly owned by Earhart, appears to be all that remains of the legendary circular, which was officially declared dead on January 5, 1939.

"I want to do it," added her letter to her husband. "Women must try to do these things as men have tried, when they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others."
