In the second part of the qualification, Lance Stroll made a mistake and went off the track. The Canadian, at the exit of the ninth corner, turned the "top" and hit the group. As a result of this impact, the front fender was damaged in the car.

The problem of the Williams driver is that he was specially prepared for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Grove team did not have the front wing in the same specification and had to install the component in the old version before Sunday's race. For 19 year olds, this means a need to start from the service avenue.

According to Motorsport information, in Williams, there was an offer to install the front wing of the model Sergey Sirotkin in Stoll's vehicle. The Russian team finished the qualifying session in the last position, while Stroll was fifteenth. Therefore, starting with pit-lane would not make a significant difference to Sirotkin, and so his teammate would maintain a better position.

However, the idea was rejected by Paddy Lowe. The technical director of the Grove team found it preferable to mount the front wing in the old specification of Stoll's vehicle.
