Olsztyn signed a contract with the Turkish Durmazlar factory for the supply of 12 trams with the option to buy a dozen – informs Public Transport. The value of the contract is PLN 108 million gross. Given the optional orders, this could rise to 206 million

– I have no doubt that a manufacturer that has not yet delivered trams on the European market will want to do its best , Olsztyn also became his window of exposure to the world – said city president, Piotr Grzymowicz, quoted in the statement. – That's why I believe we will receive a perfect product, comfortable and high quality

The first two trams have the opportunity to reach the capital of Warmia and Masuria for 21 months – in the first half of 2020. Complete delivery is expected to be completed in the next five months.

And why the Turks?

The authorities of Olsztyn did not immediately choose a Turkish producer. Earlier Solaris and Stadler offer a consortium that is a provider of trams that currently circulate on the roads of Olsztyn exceeded the budget . The orders were also not obtained by Bydgoszcz's PESA factories (which have just won a new investor).

The Turkish trams, based on the Panorama model, will have a width of 2.5 meters, which is the same as the vehicles currently used. Therefore, their use will not require changes to the infrastructure. The trams have a length of 32.5 meters and can carry up to 210 passengers, with 40 seats. According to the producer, they should be quiet – the noise level generated by them should not exceed 73.6 dB. The Panorama models, which will serve as a basis for the construction of vehicles for Olsztyn, passengers in the cities of Samsun and Koçaeli in Turkey.

Unlike the Solaris currently in use, Turkish vehicles are equipped with crank carts. The advantage of the solution is to negotiate turns more easily and reduce the use of the tracks. Wad ± – higher price.

Debut in the EU

Olsztyn became the first foreign partner of a Turkish producer and the first city of the European Union to order him vehicles. Therefore, it can be a breakthrough for the Turkish manufacturer – it can pave the way for competition in other European markets.

A Turkish company is not a leader in the industry. She presented her trams two years ago at the Berlin fair. The producer of Bursa also has experience in the production of metro and railway equipment.

According to the municipality of Olsztyn, "a Turkish company has produced up to a hundred trams today. ± carry passengers to Istanbul."
