In the second quarter of this year, Orlen achieved its highest retail sales in its history. Representatives of the gasoline company admit that the effect of non-fuel activities has had a great influence on this result – among other selling groceries on non-commercial Sundays.

Orlen received PLN 677 million in retail sales (or only at bus stations) in the second quarter. This means an increase of 18%. compared to the same period last year.

At the presentation of the results yesterday, Vice President of Development Group Zbigniew Leszczyński pointed out that the company is gaining more and more skills in operations without fuel. He admitted that petrol station stores are taking advantage of Sunday's limited trade. – During non-commercial Sundays, there is a clear increase in interest for non-combustible products. We have seen increases since April – mainly on seasonal products such as beer, beverages and ice cream –

As underlined, the company is ready to meet customer needs on non-commercial Sundays – there are products basic in stations.

Orlen also announced that during the second quarter of 2018, 32 new outlets were opened with non-fuel operations, in total there are already 1907 – including 1621 Stop Cafe in Poland (of which 231 convenience stores under the O! SHOP brand), 229 Stop Café in the Czech Republic, 23 Stop Cafe in Lithuania and 34 Star Connect in Germany.

Amendment of the law

Petrol stations appear on the list of 32 exclusions from the ban on commercial Sunday. Apart from them, the restriction does not apply, in bakeries, pastry shops, ice cream parlors, florists, souvenir shops, newspapers, transit tickets, tobacco products, gambling coupons and mutual wagers and post offices.

Before the coming into force of the regulation limiting Sunday, the law changes in the part covering its activity, adding 18 new points concerning the wholesale. After the changes, franchise stations belonging to the network of the company can be provided, for example, with fish, seafood or home appliances. Experts have evaluated the introduction of changes in the law as a fuel group reaction to regulations restricting trading on Sunday.

However, the company's authorities denied that this measure was not related to the new regulations, but only to the improvement of the operation of the shops
