PLN 4.72 million – the painting by Wojciech Fangor "M 39" was sold at auction. Thus, the work of a painter, graphic designer, poster designer and sculptor who died three years ago has become the best-selling art work in Poland. And broke the record that last year fell in the same auction house. At the time, Stanisław Wyspiański's "maternity" was sold for 4.36 million zlotys.

With 33 other paintings, "M 39" was created especially for the solo exhibition of the artist at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. "As in previous projects, the artist pursued his concept of positive illusory space, which extends between the canvas and the viewer and is based on the natural functions of the optical camera." are not limited by frames, they are open compositions that vibrate with movement and color, "explained the gallery before the auction.

In turn, his work, the American critic John Gruen, described this: "This skill of Fangora lies in the fact that it can get palpitations of colors to the extent that it is almost painful to look at them. (… But when the eye gets used to this, one discovers the harmonious construction of its abstract forms (usually amoeba-shaped or circles) and the final effect is a dazzling and magnificent lesson on the creation of the optical art in its deepest and most lyrical form.
