None of the senators of right and justice voted against it – stressed the president of the Senate, Stanisław Karczewski, Wednesday evening. He drew attention to the organizational issues of the national plebiscite, which influenced the decision – the high costs (about 100 million zlotys) and the date – day of independence.

In his speech, it was hard not to notice the contradictions, and commentators pointed out that Karczewski had entered the role of PiS spokesperson. But the most surprising words were about opposition. – I hoped that the Senators of the Civic Platform would rise above hatred, that they would rise above the political struggle, that they were not going to get away with it. would not express their opinion and abstain – he admitted.

Karczewski, contrary to the facts, blamed the failure of the presidential idea on the opposition. And the results of the vote are clear – 50 Senators PiS abstained from voting (that is, they did not support the request), only nine were in favor and 30 Senators (27 from PO) were against.

– Putting the blame on the platform is stupid propaganda, it's ridiculous. PiS politicians who criticized the initiative of President Duda recalled another argument – the failure of the referendum held at the request of President Bronisław Komorowski. Less than 8% participated in the rapid voting vote. citizens.

Up to now, the President has not commented on the decisions of Law and Justice. Already Thursday, in some statements of PiS politicians, there were ideas that a referendum could take place, but only next year in May – on the occasion of the Day of the Constitution of May or with the European elections.

It is also possible that Andrzej Duda wants to play and, for example, veto an important bill from the point of view of the ruling party. It could be a new electoral law for the European Parliament, which was held by the Senate on Friday.
