This is a surprise, because until now, four competitors in the semifinals have only doubled in the history of the Grand Prix. In Cardiff, Maciej Janowski and Bartosz Zmarzlik won the fratricidal fight. In the final, Zmarzlik was the best, taking the lead after the start. In the overall tournament, he scored 19 points out of 21 possible. Janowski had problems in the decisive race, and yet he managed to overtake Greg Hancock on the distance.
Finally, Zmarzlik, Tai Woffinden and Maciej Janowski were on the podium, and all three had good reasons for that. Zmarzlik not only won, he also advanced in the rankings from eighth to fifth place. The Brit has taken another step towards the world championship, and his advantage over second Fredrik Lindgren is already 20 points. Janowski was promoted to third place in the rankings.
This was a special day for the representatives of Poland. Przemysław Pawlicki was surprised, who in four previous tournaments scored just 14 points, and in Cardiff after the basic phase had nine more on his account. The Pole not only competed, but mostly played at a distance. In direct combat, he defeated Jason Doyle and Artiom Łaguta. Nothing like a passive speedway racer from previous tournaments
The longest promotion to the semifinals had to tremble … the fastest Polish Maciej Janowski. From the start, the Wrocławer impressed with speed, but in his second race he was injured by the judge. When outside, he attacked Jason Doyle, he decided to take her to the group. The Pole had no choice but to jump from a motorbike to save himself from a much more serious accident. The group was dangerously close. However, Judge Christian Froschauer drew attention to the fact that there was no contact between the players and he excluded the Pole. However, this is not the end of Janowski's problems, because in the fourth set from the infield he started before the start and made his task difficult. He advanced to the semi-finals he won in the last series, skilfully using the spot that was left to him by Nickki Pedersen
The biggest surprise was Craig Cook's sensational attitude. Before the tournament, it seemed like it would be a great tournament for the British, but everyone would bet that Tai Woffinden and Robert Lambert would play the main roles. The hero, however, was Cook, who escaped from his rivals right after the start. The 31-year-old, however, did not cause a serious injury. In the 20th race, he did not master the bike, which virtually jumped out of him and flew a few meters behind the group. Fortunately, the competitors and their teams do not watch this race. Otherwise, it would be much worse.
Lambert, 20, did not stand the pressure, for whom the Saturday tournament was to mark the start of a great career in the Grand Prix. The British, however, did not survive mentally, and the race with his participation was repeated up to nine times. He started with the fault before the start of the first race, then fell after the shock with Woffinden, but the worst was yet to come. In his last start by overtaking Doyle, he gently pushed the Australian, who knocked him down on the track. He was hit by a motorcycle in the world champion under the group. Medical services for more than 10 minutes took care of him on the runway, the ambulance was very carefully brought on a stretcher.
