Taxi drivers protest in the center of Warsaw

Taxi drivers demonstrate in the streets of Warsaw. They want to pay attention once again to the problem of unauthorized carriers who, as they say, "take away customers from them". There are traffic problems.

From two places

Taxi drivers met at two o'clock at noon, then left for the center.

Those gathered Wednesday in front of the National Stadium and in the car park of the Torwar Hall started after 12 towards the center. From Torwar, they take the streets Łazienkowska, Myśliwiecka, Górnośląska, Piękna and Ujazdowskie avenues to go to Trzech Krzyży Square.

From the national stadium, the crossing will take Aleje Jerozolimskie to the Dmowskiego roundabout, where protesters will meet taxi drivers from Torwar. Then they will go together to the central station. At 14:00, they will leave the roundabout forty years to go to the Rotonde region.

– We expect about 400 drivers to participate in the event. We have information that we will be supported by colleagues from Lodz – said Monday Artur Wnorowski, vice president of the union "Taxi Driver Warsaw".

"We will not be able to warn"

The information on the planned demonstration did not reach the officials or the police on the official route.

– The organizers of the event have not informed the town hall, so we do not know the exact route of the course. This means that we will not be able to warn the Warsawians sooner of the difficulties, explained Tomasz Demiańczuk of the press service of Warsaw City Hall on Monday.

– The police have not been informed of the planned event. I can assure you that the police will examine the situation closely and react according to the circumstances – announced Jarosław Florczak of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Department earlier this week.

The previous demonstration of taxi drivers from Warsaw organized on October 18th. Now they have decided to remember the leaders and pay attention to the problem of illegal carriers – in their opinion.

"Last warning"

"The previous demonstration was supposed to be a warning, it did not work, it will be the last warning, this time there will be traffic problems in the center of Warsaw, but in the middle of the day." The next demonstration will block the center -ville at rush hour, "read on Facebook.

– We call for an intensification of work on the amendment of the law on road transport – explains Artur Wnorowski. – We want the rules to be applied equally to all carriers. Meanwhile, unlicensed carriers operate without a license, they are not required to perform psychotechnical tests or have cash registers. And most importantly – we mean carriers with equal responsibility for what happens to the passenger – he explains.
