Kubica took part in the second part of the tests of the afternoon. He traveled the shortest route and the fewest laps possible – the circuit of Abu Dhabi was beaten only 32 times. Time 1: 39.269 allowed him to take the ninth position. The Pole proved slightly faster than his teammate Williams, George Russell. The Brit finished the first day with a score of 1: 39.512.
The fastest was Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, more than 0.4 seconds ahead of Mercedes' Valtteri Bottasa. The third was Lance Stroll from Force India.
At Yas Marina, the drivers test the tires prepared by Pirelli for the new season. The second part of the tests will take place on Wednesday. Kubica will be riding in the morning.
On Thursday, it was announced that Kubica in 2019 would be Williams' race driver. So, participating in Formula 1 will be back after an eight-year hiatus, caused by injuries suffered during an accident that occurred during the Ronde di Andorra in 2011. This year, he was a test pilot and development in the UK team.
