Opening of the A1 motorway

Today, Friday afternoon, the new route will be entirely available to motorists.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki opened a new episode of Pyrzowice – Częstochowa shortly after 11. Elżbieta Bieńkowska, former Minister of Development of the OP government, stood by her side and, from 2014, the European Commissioner in charge internal market and services.

– This A1 highway will increase the comfort of residents. This will reduce journey time from 40 minutes to approximately 15 minutes. It can be said that it's a small thing, but the world is made up of such small things, these are important things we want to spend time on, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

– We are well on our way to connecting the north and the south. I am pleased to note that, in keeping with our philosophy of reaching north and south, we are taking a big step forward to connect Silesia with Pomerania – said the Prime Minister.

The new section of the A1 motorway will certainly facilitate the transition from the south to the north of the country. Until now, drivers could drive in our voivodship with only 108 km from A1 connecting Gorzyczek to Pyrzowice.

In Pyrzowice, you can take the S1 fast lane and continue north until you reach the National Road No. 1, a popular game.

S1 connects to DK 1 on the Podwarpie subnode. Gierkówką then we go to Częstochowa and further north.

From August 2nd, the A1 motorway will be longer

Drivers will not have to leave the A1 at the Pyrzowice Interchange, but they will go further. You have the choice between two options. Either they leave the A1 at the intersection of Woźniki and from there, they take the provincial road 789 to reach Koziegłowy, or they leave the A1 at the crossroads of Częstochowa at noon. From there, along the provincial road 908 to Częstochowa, you can enter DK1.

– The new section of the A1 motorway given to drivers brings us today more than 30 km from the north-south link of Poland with high quality roads. Comfortable, fast and safe – it will be a trip on the new highway – said Minister Jerzy Kwieciński.

The new section of the A1 motorway is part of the project, which will eventually be 58 km long. The investment, with a total value of about 3 billion zlotys, received more than 1.35 billion zlotys from the Infrastructure and Environment Program. Everything will be ready later this year.

– This is another important road investment in Poland implemented with the support of the EU. The amount of co-financing from European funds represents more than half of the total value of the project – added the minister.

In connection with the existing A1 section, drivers can borrow 125 km from the highway between Częstochowa and the state border in Gorzyczki. An implemented project involves not only a few tens of kilometers of a new concrete pavement, but also two road junctions, 68 art works or 4 service areas.

After the construction of the A1 motorway, we will travel from southern Poland to Gdańsk in around 6 hours. The route follows the international route E75, it is also a trans-European transport corridor that starts on the Baltic coast and ends on the Adriatic coast.

Częstochowa South knot with restrictions

It should be remembered, however, that the latter option does not apply to cars whose total permissible weight exceeds 12 tonnes. Moreover, in Częstochowa, near the intersection 908 with DK1, there is a reconstruction of the track and it is necessary to count with difficulties and even traffic jams.

The opening section A1 is a concrete road. And that means that the major renovation of this highway can be planned at the earliest in about 30 years. The paved surface has only viaduct nodes.
