The control of pig farms has reduced the risk of transmission of the disease. Veterinary services must visit about 200,000 people, but in just a few months a few thousand have been inspected.
The reason for the delays is the poor situation of the veterinary inspection. If there is no rapid improvement of staff and financial situation, the checks can take up to 10 years. The African swine fever virus does not expect as much – says Witold Katner of the National Chamber of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine
– The situation related to African swine fever is very worrying because almost every week we observe new outbreaks of disease. Illness completely indifferent to humans, but very dangerous for the whole economy – estimates in a conversation with the news agency Newseria Biznes Witold Katner, spokeswoman for the National Chamber of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine
appeared in Poland in early 2014. From this moment, 161 outbreaks of the disease were found. Only this year, 57 outbreaks were revealed, to 81 in 2017. June data indicate that more than 2.3 thousand were also detected. PPP case in wild boars. The disease occurs in the eastern voivodeships, but it is likely to cover a much larger area of the country
– A black scenario assuming that the virus enters the three largest pig farms: Wielkopolskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie or Łódź may mean a real economic disaster.
It will not only be felt by farmers, meat plants or pork exporters, but it can also affect the average consumer. The entry of the disease across the country is virtually a physical liquidation of pork production throughout the country, which means that we will have to say goodbye to the traditional pork chops Polish – stresses Witold Katner
. for the virus to enter intensive pig production areas in the Łódzkie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Wielkopolskie Voivodeships, where the pig population constitutes more than half of the national population. Fighting the virus will consume huge sums, it will be extremely difficult.
The non-spread of the disease was intended to help farms to adhere to biosecurity principles intended to protect farms against the introduction of African swine fever virus into the pork's territory. From April on, controls started in terms of compliance. There are 230 thousand to check. farms, within two months, they managed to carry only 6,000
– The reason is very bad, not to say the crisis, the staffing and the financial situation of the veterinary inspection. Low wages make people leave their jobs en masse, while veterinary inspection is not such an attractive employer that people after tough studies of six years do not want to work there for 2.5 thousand. gross – indicates the expert. – We estimate that if the situation does not improve quickly, the inspections can take 7-10 years, and I assure you that the African swine fever virus will not wait so much
According to the Ministry from Agriculture and Rural Development, Veterinarian on average is about 2 thousand. PLN gross. Only a little over 30 percent. the call for bids has ended with the signing of the contract. Up to half of them have not been received by an app, and in almost 5 percent. – the selected candidates have resigned from the post. The number of vacancies is constantly increasing
– The African swine fever virus is very virulent and has the ability to survive under very unfavorable conditions. You have to fight it very quickly, and you can not do it without an efficient service that will take care of it, and it's a veterinary inspection – says Katner.
The National Medical and Veterinary Council estimates that a doctor starting to work in the inspection should earn a national minimum on average. It is hoped that in the near future, doctors will be able to count on increases. The Ministry of Agriculture has asked for additional money from the budget reserve of the Veterinary Inspection.
– For the time being, we are fighting PPA on the eastern wall, while biosafety principles are in effect throughout the country. In order to effectively implement this prevention, these jobs are needed throughout the country, while the jobs themselves will not fight ASF. It is necessary to create financial conditions such that someone would like to work there, the mere allocation of jobs will not change anything, it must act of additional positions and high salaries.
The problem is urgent, but over the past few weeks there have been several outbreaks of PPPs – says Witold Katner.
