Zoe Carew raised the issue after seeing "Lineman" signs warning that power cables were being modified or repaired, noting that women could do the job.
"I think this sign is fake and unfair." Carew wrote in a letter to Fergus Gammie, the executive director of the New Zealand Transportation Agency (NZTA)
although Carew has expressed no interest in becoming a line worker "because there are so many other exciting things" all women.
She asked for a change in the signs to say "LINE-WORKERS" or "something correct and just like that".
The NZTA responded to Carew, praising his activism. While "line workers" would need to change the size of the sign, they could actually change the sign to "line crew".
Gammie also invited Zoe to take his picture with the new sign once it's been updated.
The NZTA then announced its decision on social media, stating that "good ideas can come from anyone, including seven-year-olds!"
