The tragedy occurred on Friday, July 6th. At 1.57 a night in the vicinity of Pasłęka (Warmian-Masurian province) MiG-29 aircraft of the 22nd Tactical Air Base crashed. The pilot catapulted, but did not survive the accident.
The tragically deceased pilot flew more than 850 hours, including over 600 hours on the MiG-29, where he was on duty. He has participated several times in national and international exercises
Currently, the Department of National Defense does not give any information on the causes of the accident. The MiG-29 aircraft accident is the subject of an investigation by the State Aviation Accident Investigation Commission. .
Meanwhile, "Gazeta Wyborcza" informs that there are ongoing reviews of the state of RD-33 engines, which are used in MiG-29. Unofficially, it is believed that the reason for the accident was a pilot error, which poorly planned the approach of the airport strip. Then the MiG-29 flights resumed quickly.
