The new Porsche 911 is already the eighth generation

Porsche has just introduced the new generation 911. The shape is familiar, which will probably surprise no one. The general silhouette of the body remains the same for decades. So what has changed? Above all, many new products have been introduced in the training: the boxer engines with 6 cylinders are now much more powerful than before. Initially, we will have two versions of the new 911: Carrera S and 4S, standard with a dual-clutch PDK gearbox. The first copies will be in the exhibition halls in March 2019.

In the new 911 Carrera S and equipped with a 4×4 Carrera 4S engine, we now have 30 hp more than before, 450 hp (at 6,500 rpm), while maintaining the unchanged cubic capacity of 3 liters of boxer with 6 cylinders. The torque is 530 Nm (between 2300 and 5000 rpm). The improved injection mechanism, modern turbochargers and a modified charge air cooling system have also increased engine efficiency and reduced fuel consumption. The 8-speed dual clutch gearbox works in conjunction with the modernized drive unit. Carrera S can drive up to 308 km / h and Carrera 4S – in 4×4 – 306 km / h. Interestingly, the time to accelerate to hundreds has dramatically improved. The modifications to the box mean that the two versions of 911 at 100 km / h reach 0.4 s faster than the previous generation, in 3.7 s (Carrera S) and in 3.6 s (Carrera 4S) . You can deduct an additional 0.2 seconds by purchasing the Sport Chrono package.

The new Porsche 911: What has changed outside the engines?

Well, the 911 with a 992 factory mark has a modernized undercarriage in which more aluminum is used, especially at the rear of the car. The suspension and chassis have also been changed. For example, the Carrera and Carrera S now have rear wheels, which, according to the German manufacturer, makes them more agile.

In terms of stylization, the changes, as is generally the case with the 911, are not revolutionary. We'll see slightly modified mudguard shapes, new LED lights, a slightly elongated hood or modified bumpers. The wheels will have a diameter of 20 inches (front) or 21 inches (rear). We also know, although we do not yet know the exact dimensions of the body, that the new model has evolved compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase has also been increased to offer, as Porsche representatives say, more space in the cockpit.

Many changes took place inside the 911. For example, there was an analog tachometer in front of the driver, but all the other information is already displayed on the screens. The center console features another 10.9-inch touch screen. On the console, between the passenger seat and the driver's seat, there is a gear lever with a new shape (or an automatic steering lever), an electronic parking brake and some buttons to change the driving parameters most important, as before.

Novelty aboard 911 are systems that increase safety, including, for example, the wet mode, ie the wet driving mode, in which the PSM modifies the mode of action with respect to slippery surfaces. Other systems include a radar speed controller, a thermal imaging camera or an "assistant" to prevent a collision from hitting the back of another car.

New Porsche 911 – next versions on the horizon

Of course, the Carrera 4 and 4S will not end with a new 911 range. There are lower versions, that is to say only the 911 Carrera (with the same engine but lower power) and more powerful, namely GTS and Turbo. It is interesting to note that Porsche is also considering a 911 hybrid variant that can be reloaded from the output. However, this is a version that will not be marketed before 2022. Add that Porsche rivals will include Mercedes-AMG GT, Audi R8 or Jaguar F-Type V8.
