A State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, interviewed today in the Polish evening for a letter sent by the US ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, responded with a smile: "L & rsquo; Ambassador Mosbacher is doing a good job. " The content of the letter did not want to comment.
Nothing more could be expected. Nobody in America will officially comment on the actions of the ambassador. Something unofficial. Nothing can be excluded here. There was information – but outside the public traffic – that your ambassador's letter to Washington was considered a step too far. Nobody, however, under the name would confirm it. So wait, see.
The involvement of Americans in the defense of TVN is not new. Recall that this channel – belonging to the Discovery group – had already been the subject of a dispute over the Warsaw-Washington line a year ago, when the National Broadcasting Council imposed on TVN a financial penalty for its relations with the "coup d'etat" parliamentary December 2016. At that time, under the pressure of the Americans, the punishment was abandoned.
Today is similar. The investigation on the TVN report on "Hitler births" and the media polonization announcements (which is not very real today) are causing concern among the media. Americans who are trying to intervene again. The difference is that the current ambassador behaves like an elephant in a porcelain shop, give reminders to the public and send arrogant letters with a note suggesting that if the government (Prime Minister) does not resolve this issue, other "more important" issues could be endangered.
It is hard not to resist the impression that your ambassador was very involved in the role of a defender of American companies. In any case, this is not surprising given that he is from this background and is considered a close friend of the chairman of the board of directors of Discovery, David Zaslava.
The problem, however, is much broader than defending the interests of one or the other American company. This is due to the structural impotence of the Polish state, which is obliged to tolerate such behavior. Because it is difficult to imagine the initiation of a conflict with America, especially as overseas countries know well that we do not have too many benefits. Of course, it's not wise for anyone to worry about spoiling US-Polish relations, but some of which give some thought to the nature of our mutual relations, it will certainly be useful to us. And here, Mrs. Mosbacher has done us a favor.
