The city council is entitled to such a referendum – from there, the initiative can be launched. Establishment of the Smolensk monument in Warsaw
The decision to place the monument was taken by the voivode of Mazovia Zdzisław Sipera in early 2018. Also in February, the town hall indicated that no information on the location had entered the city . Bartosz Milczarczyk, a spokesman for the city office, stressed that the actions of the voivode are illegal. The city also claimed that the plot on which the monument was built … does not exist.
Despite the allegations, the monument was created. The official opening of the monument to the victims of the Smolensk tragedy in 2010 took place on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the Smolensk disaster.
