We know how the Toruń train stations and the railway bridge will change thanks to the BiT-City project

Within one month, the Polish railways should announce a call for tenders for the preparation of documentation that will allow the modernization of the railway between Toruń Miasto and Toruń stations. Wschodni. It's a very important and long-awaited investment. Thanks to this, the two stations will be renovated, railway workers will enlarge the eye of the needle, which is for them a single-track section passing through the Railway Gate. They will also take care of the Vistula bridge, although they do not talk about renovation but renovation.

However, the overall work will be known after the preparation of the documentation, which will cost about 11.5 million gross PLN and should take a year and a half. The project will also determine how much the modernization of the line will cost. At present, it is said that the implementation of this task can absorb 400 million PLN. It is absolutely certain that PKP SA, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe and the Toruń authorities will work together in this case as part of the second edition of the BiT-City program. On Monday, all parties signed a triple agreement on this issue.

– I guarantee you that if someone allocates more than PLN 11 million to develop the documentation, it will certainly be implemented – said Toruń's president, Michał Zaleski.

We have recently written about the planned modernization of two Toruń stations. Railway workers want to renovate the buildings at Toruń Miasto and Toruń Wschody. Both will receive new platforms, sheds, of course not to mention the tracks. The municipal station will have a new underpass, which will be accessible to people with disabilities and will be pierced at ul. Chłopickiego.

For railway workers, one of the most important problems on the "Toruń" section of line 353 is the railway barrier. For a hundred years, trains have crossed over two lanes, but during the electrification carried out in the 80s of the last century, the route had to be limited to one lane. Railwaymen hope that this problem will be solved by lowering the level of lanes in the door of one meter. Initial measurements indicate that this should be enough, but the final answer will be given by the designers. If they decide that the second lane does not fit in the door, it will be necessary to build a new tunnel next to the railway monument.

For a long time the bridge over the Vistula was repaired. However, it promises to be quite modest. The railwaymen will exchange tracks, they will repaint the rest, reinforcing the demolished elements of the structure. Of course, these are also preliminary hypotheses, perhaps while working on the project, it will happen that the renovation of the passage will have to be more serious. Whatever the variant, a bike path and a pedestrian walkway will be built on the bridge. The city will take care of it.

More on the Tuesday issue of "Nowości", and for readers who read the Internet version, we include a surprise – a photo gallery of the interior of two turrets on the railway bridge. Very interesting, heavily damaged and terribly dirty.
