Zory. Firefighters fight with fire

Dozens of firefighters were sent in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday to fight the fire in Żory, in the province of Silesia. In the heat, there was a used tire storage yard covering an area of ​​about one thousand square meters. In the morning, the fire spread. Flushes of black smoke hover over the city.

The fire is declared around 1:30 am Tuesday night.

– He covered a tire park of 5 to 6 meters high in the premises of a recycling company on Kleszczowska Street – informed the Silesian fire brigade spokeswoman, young Brigadier Aneta Gołębiowska.

After four o'clock in the morning, the situation was still uncontrolled and the fire – whose area had originally been estimated at about one thousand square meters – has spread to a much larger area – about 10,000 square meters.

There were 15 firefighters on the site, including Ory, Rybnik and Pszczyna. Soon they will have to join them with other firefighting units. There are no wounded.

"Neighboring buildings are in danger"

There are no residential buildings in the immediate vicinity of the fire, so it was not necessary to evacuate the residents. The action of firefighters is hindered by high temperatures and strong smoke. Clouds of dense black smoke can be seen on fire tires. Firefighters work in respirators.

The company, where the landfill is located, specializes in recycling used tires and other rubber products. – The neighboring warehouses and production buildings and the remaining part of the depot are in danger – said Gołębiowska.

At 6:30, Captain Andrzej Pilny, Deputy Commander of the PSP Fire Rescue and Rescue Unit, admitted in an interview with TVN24 that it would take 4 to 5 hours to extinguish a fire. – We give the water currents, but we will also use fire foam – he reported on the progress of the action. As he explained, more than 70 firefighters were working on the site at that time.

Captain Pilny, questioned about the extent of air pollution caused by smoke smoke, replied that "there is no information on the pollution that would threaten the local inhabitants ".
