Four people, including a subway bus driver, were shot dead in Seattle on Wednesday afternoon and one was arrested, police said.

Police were on the scene with several victims in the Lake City neighborhood, north of the city, according to Twitter posts published by the Seattle Police Department.

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best told the Seattle Times that four people had been shot dead and one of them had been killed.

King County Metro said on Twitter that at 4:05 pm a bus operator on Line 75 of the metro triggered the emergency alarm and said he was injured by a shot. According to preliminary information, none of the 12 passengers were injured, the agency said.

The bus driver was hit on the chest, but the paramedics managed to walk to a cuckoo, said Kenneth Price, president of Local 587 of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

Price says it's unclear if the driver was targeted.
