BLOOMINGTON, Minnesota – A young boy is hospitalized after a man threw or pushed him off the third floor balcony of the Mall of America on Friday morning, April 12, according to Bloomington police.

The boy's mother could be heard screaming that the child had been thrown out, witnesses told WCCO-TV.

Bloomington police said via Twitter that they were investigating an incident in which a 5-year-old child had been injured.

CPR was performed urgently on the child in the southeast corner of the mall before taking him to the Minneapolis Children's Hospital.

A source told WCCO that the person who pushed or threw the boy from the balcony had run away from the mall and was quickly stopped by the Blue Line transit line.

Shortly before 11 am, Metro Transit posted on social media that there was no service in or out of the mall due to police activities. Service resumed just before 11:30

Calls to the Bloomington police and Mall of America officials have not yet been returned.
