SEVIERVILLE, Tennessee – Police said a man had apparently killed a Pennsylvania woman and injured a Massachusetts man outside a mall near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park before killing himself.
The shooter was identified as Leon Steven Jones, 21, of Newport-Sevierville, Tennessee.
The woman was Olivia Katel Cunningham, 24, from York, Pennsylvania. The injured, 75-year-old John Marr, of Templeton, Mass., Was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His condition was not known.
Sevierville police spokesperson Bob Stahlke said the three men had been hit by a semi-automatic handgun. Investigators say that it seems that the gunman did not know one or the other victim, who was not related.
Earlier, Stahlke told the Knoxville News Sentinel that there was no threat and the Tanger Outlets mall was open, with the exception of a small area protected by a criminal shield.
